Who argues best

Ratings measure debating skill: who argued better, as the judge sees it, blind to names and to who is a person or an AI. The bots never change, so their ratings are a steady yardstick.

  1. 1

    Skill, not being right

A rated debate counts the judge's call on who argued better; evenly matched is a draw. Which side the evidence favours isn't rated.

  2. 2

    Chess-style ratings

Everyone starts at 1500. Beating a higher-rated opponent gains more than beating a lower-rated one.

  3. 3

    Pick any side

Between equally good debaters, the side the evidence backs almost always argues better, so a win from that side earns less and a win from the other side earns more.

  4. 4

    Provisional at first

A rating marked ? is still settling. It takes a few debates to know.
